[ale_toggle title=”From Matisse to the Blue Rider Expressionism in Germany and France’ at Kunsthaus Zürich ” state=”open”]
While “Expressionism” generally speaking is regarded having its origins in the German art world, this exhibition is having the mission to kill that myth. The goal of this collaborative exhibition – a cooperation with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montréal – is to highlight that expressionism in fact grew out of a collaborative cosmopolitan exchange of like-minded artists, without any national boundaries in place.
The interesting finding is that during the past century the German attribute was accepted as a fact, and no real studies have been made about the origins of the Expressionist movement. This exhibition demonstrates with the 107 masterpieces by 37 artists on display that Expressionism in fact resulted from an international exchange between Germany and France. the exhibition takes the visitor from Seurat, Signac, Matisse to the artists of ‘Die Brücke’ and ‘Der Blaue Reiter’ movements.

[ale_toggle title=”Picture Ballot! ‘Gently Enraptured – Children As In A Dream’ at Kunsthaus Zürich ” state=”open”]
This latest in the ‘Picture Ballot!’ series focuses on depictions of children by among others the painters Anker, Fuseli, Hodler, Segantini. What all the works in this series have in common is that all the depicted children appear self-absorbed or in some way absent. The state of rapture associated with the themes of sleep, dreaming and death is central to this exhibition. There is a steady feeling that for the artists the recollection of the childhood was not just about the careless, idyllic days of innocence, but the transitions from the fantastic to the ideal and threatening are fluid.

[ale_toggle title=”‘Alberto Giacometti Drawings and Watercolours’ at Kunsthaus Zürich ” state=”open”]
Without much doubt, the Giacometti name is at the top of the echelon in Swiss art. Alberto Giacometti himself is the biggest name in the Giacometti family and his work is admired world over. While his name is among the legends mainly thanks to his sculptures, he also has a considerable oeuvre in other fields as well.
This exhibition is focusing in on the artists drawings and watercolours, stretching over Giacometti’s entire life (1901-1966). The collection is selected form the donation to the Kunsthaus made by the brother of the artist, the architect Bruno Giacometti.
Lso not to be forgotten that the Kunsthaus is the home of the most important and comprehensive collection of works by Alberto Giacometti in the world, the collection of the Alberto Giacometti Foundation, that is also on view for the public.

[ale_toggle title=”Vintage – design with a History’ at Museum für Gestaltung Zürich” state=”open”]
A relatively small exhibition with a limited number of items, but still to be considered an interesting journey down the memory lane. There’s everything from day-to-day artifacts to Rietveld chairs, but also jeans and Adidas sneakers made famous by the rappers from Run DMC.
Maybe not much of spectacular value, but together with some decent movie clips you can watch there are some stories that might surprise you. It can be an hour well spent, but if you’re coming to the museum for this exhibition alone, you might get disappointed.

Japanese poster culture is unsurprisingly a different experience all together from what the Western world is used to. its uniqueness is built around a subtle poetry, vivid colours and thought-provoking messages. This exhibition highlights in the first place the history of the poster art culture in japan with a specific focus on three of the great masters: Shigeo Fukuda, Kazumasa Nagai and Ikko Tanaka.
The exhibition is also celebrating the 150 years of diplomatic collaboration between Switzerland and japan.

‘Canopies for the Goddess’ is the name given to large-scale illustrated textiles in India’s Gujarat. these textiles mark a sacred place for the veneration of goddesses. These printed or painted textiles tell of the deeds of the Gods and Goddesses. This exhibition shows a selection of these remarkable textiles and it also offers a glimpse into the techniques and production processes used, and the symbolism involved.
